Sean Moore has rejoined the club after some time out from the game, he's had a pretty eventful year so we thought it was a good idea to catch up with Sean, to find out what he has been getting up to and why he decided to make a return.
Sean firstly welcome back to the club. How are you feeling about getting back involved after taking some time away from the game?
I'm excited to be getting back into it. The time away has done me the world of good and has brought back my competitiveness to perform and do well. I felt this had been missing from me for the past couple of years which led to my decision to take a year off.
What did you get up to during your time away from cricket?
Mainly spending time with my friends and family, which felt weird not playing cricket every Saturday during the summer. CrossFit is another big hobby of mine so I was enjoying focusing on that also. I turned 30 during the summer too so I was celebrating the landmark.
What was the main reason for deciding to come back to Widnes?
Widnes is my home club, I've played here all my life so if I was going to come back to play cricket it was always going to be here. Also, the club seems rejuvenated under the new captaincy of Tom, which adds to the excitement!
What are you looking to bring to the team now you’re making a comeback?
Some big performances hopefully. My recent years have been batting focused, however I'm looking to get back to developing my all round game. The team is strong so I'm hoping I can contribute with either the bat or ball.
Some people may not know that you had a health scare over the past year. Can you give them some more information about what happened?
Yes, during the summer I had a cardiac arrest leading to me nearly dying. I think you're putting a link of a video I did for CrossFit Widnes which explains the story in greater detail.
Following that, I am still waiting to find the cause of why it happened. I am waiting on a couple of appointments come through to further investigate, so hopefully I may have an answer before the summer.
For people wanting to see more about Seans scare, he recently did an interview for CrossFit Widnes here's the link; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRhPjolsbWg
We spoke to first team captain Tom Evans about Sean's decision to play next season here's what he said. ' It's great news for the club, Sean is a top quality cricketer and knows the club inside out, I'm over the moon he's decided to play again and I can't wait to have him back out there on the pitch with us. Sean has got his hunger back and I feel like he has a lot to prove to himself which can only be good for the team and the club. Welcome back Sean!!'
